Jan. 12, 2017 Green Card Voices met with 30 immigrant students, and soon-to-be-authors, from LEAP High School in St. Paul. Through a presentation with former Wellstone student (and author in the Minneapolis book), Zaynab Abdi, the students asked questions and calmed their nerves in preparation for the recording later in January. IMG_1095The students have been preparing to record their narratives for the past semester under the guidance of EL teacher Dr. Amy Hewett-Olatunde. Green Card Voices, in collaboration with Hamline University graduate students, will work with these English Learner (EL) students, who come from thirteen different countries, to create individual online video narratives and written personal essays that will be published in a book in June 2017.
