After living a sheltered life in Pakistan, Dr. Sadaf Altaf’s move to the United States proved challenging. Since then, she has enjoyed a successful career as a physician for one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions.
Dr. Altaf was born in Karachi in 1974. When she was eight years old, her father passed away; Sadaf and her family moved in with their grandparents. After watching her mother struggle due to her lack of education, Dr. Altaf decided at a young age that she needed a college degree if she was to have the life she desired. She graduated from Dow Medical College at the University of Karachi, Pakistan.
Dr. Altaf looked to continue her medical training after earning her degree. Noting how limited her options were in Pakistan, it became obvious that she would have to travel abroad. Deciding to pursue opportunities within the United States, Sadaf decided to move to Minnesota with her husband, a fellow physician.
After Dr. Altaf completed her certification, she was offered residency in pediatric medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Following that, she performed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology and current works for the Mayo Clinic Health System. In addition to her training in medicine, Dr. Altaf earned a Master’s degree in clinical research. She lives in Rochester, Minnesota with her husband and three children.
